Pattern: Pinwheel Sweater from Elann
Yarn: Body: Evilla Artyarn colour A3, approx. 300 g, from Mauds Garn. Edging and sleeves: Rauma Finull colour 484 brown (3 balls) and 425 red (1 ball).
Needles: 3.5 mm for “body”, 3 mm for edging and 4 mm for sleeves
I started this project last fall because I was bored, and wanted to see what the Pinwheel pattern looked like, and I used the Artyarn I had lying around cause I didn’t really know what to do with it. I’m not even sure if I intended to knit the whole jacket. The pattern and yarn turned out to be the perfect combo. Don’t know why it took me so long to finish it, when I finally picked it up again it was done in a few days. It is a really simple and fast knit, and would be a great beginners project.
The perfect autumn jacket, autumn colours, light and warm. I knit until I had 400 stitches, one more increase round than the sweater in the pattern. It could not have been any smaller over the shoulders, but it fits me perfectly and is just the right length.
The only modification I did was to knit the garter stitch cuffs longer than the pattern called for.
I had about 400 g of the Artyarn, and as I got more and more stitches I broke the yarn and knit from different places in centerpull balls to keep the stripes from getting thinner and thinner.
I stretched it out in a slightly oval shape when blocking, and that gave a very nice fit. I managed to find a unicoloured yarn for edging and sleeves that matched the body colours perfectly. The sleeves start at the inner brown section, and you can’t even tell it is a different yarn, so similar is the colour. Yay!

I haven’t found any photos of what the front looks like, so here you go. I’ll see if I can find a pin that matches a little better, but I’ surprised how well such a simple shape actually fits a body. The knitting is of course elastic, but still. I know I’ll wear this a lot this fall and winter.
The lyrics for Wake me up when September ends can be found here. Thanks so my sister for taking the photos, that was a lot of fun!
Oh wow! I think the longer sleeves definitely look better and those colors are just gorgeous.
beautiful!
Åh den var kjempeflott! Jeg og vil ha.. 🙂
For en innmari kul genser du har laget, flotte farger og så kledelig!
Much more attractive than the version on the Elann site. Nice work!
You’re an artist! The original pattern is cute, but your sweater is beautiful. From “crafty” to couture!
Congratulations on manipulating the yarn, too. It took me years of knitting before that occurred to me.
Plus, many thanks for showing us what the front looks like. (Some of us care!)
May you wear it long and in good health. You now have a fan club in Washington, DC!
Utrolig lekker jakke!!!
*Ønsker meg til jul :)*
That’s beautiful! And comfy and practical and clever, too! I wasn’t crazy about how it looked on elann (though I liked the baby version) – but yours makes me want to go make one right now! Blocking it to an oval was a great idea. Great job!
it’s absolutely gorgeous… I am also totally amazed that you climbed a tree for that photo.
Utrolig flott!!!Jeg er imponert altså! Deilige høstfarger!!!
Aldeles nydelig!
oh my!!!!!
I saw this on craftster, and I admit I am almost jelious okay Im very jelious of how terrific you are at knitting!!!!!!!
its beautiful!!!!!!!
Wow, den jakka var flott.
i absolutely love this version of this sweater. i really want to make it in this colorway as a gift for my sister. is that yarn available in the US?? i tried to find it on the website you linked too but didn’t see that color. 😦
Jeg vet ikke om du bør bruke den jakka. Hadde jeg laget noe slikt, så ville jeg hengt den på veggen – i monter! Den var rett og slett rålekker
Did you ever figure out the measurements for this jacket? I’m worried it won’t fit over my shoulders. Any tips?
thanks. great job, btw
That’s beautiful! Now I want to make one too…hehe.:)
Nydelig! Enda en ting å tilføye på lista ^^

I’m playing with this pinwheel sweater concept right now. Thanks so much for posting the front view picture! I was wondering how I’d close it. I wasn’t sure if I could add bottons or not, and then where to make the holes. Your picture help a lot! Your sweater is very nice!
